Popular Photography Closes After 80 Years

It's a sad day in the photography world—after 80 years, Popular Photography Magazine will be closing its covers and no longer be publishing any content. The first issue hit newsstands in 1937. It was a monthly publication for all these years, but they switched to bi-monthly edition about six months ago.

The upcoming March/April issue will be the last, and as of Friday, March 10th, no new content will be published on their website, PopPhoto.com. Their sister publication, American Photo Magazine, has been web-only for the past couple of years and it will also stop updating its website as of this coming Friday.

Both magazines have been issued by Bonnier. Bonnier’s CEO, Eric Zinczenko, made the announcement earlier today via a company-wide email.

It's sad to see printed publication close because of digital. Having worked in print publication industry, it's very hard to keep up with digital age since reviews, tutorials, content and everything else can be posted with a click of a button. I personally liked receiving magazines in the mail and flipping through the pages...call me old school if you will. It's more surprising that they opted to close the site down as well.
