LIMITED STOCK: 3D Printed Reversible Lens Hood for Canon RF 35mm Macro IS STM

Canon RF 35mm f1.8 IS Macro STM Lens Hood

What's the purpose of a lens hood?
In photography, a lens hood or lens shade is a device used on the front end of a lens to block the sun or other light source(s) to prevent glare and lens flare. Lens hoods may also be used to protect the lens from scratches and the elements without having to put on a lens cover.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! LIMITED STOCK!

The Canon RF 35mm f1.8 Macro IS STM (MSRP $499.00) should be in every photographers camera bag who owns a Canon EOS R, RP, R5, R6/Mark II, R3, R7, R8, R10, R50, R100 and any other new/future R-series camera. The image quality is great, lots of great reviews and the price is affordable without breaking the bank but it doesn't come with a lens hood.

Canon offers the EW-52 Lens Hood (MSRP $41.95 - Amazon US | Amazon CA | Amazon UK | B&H PhotoAdorama | eBay) as seen above. The EW-52 is a screw-on lens hood and is smaller than your typical round/petal lens hood. I'm not a big fan of screw-on lens hood because if there was strong enough impact, it can damage the lens and its so short that it really doesn't offer that much of a protection. Bigger lens hoods that attach simply slip over the lens, offer more protection to the lens and pop off from accidental impacts.

JJC (Amazon US | Amazon CA | Amazon UK) is the only 3rd party manufacturer that offers a lens hood for the RF35mm. It uses a gasket and adapter ring to attach the lens hood and the lens hood is the tulip flower petal type; to remove the adapter ring, it requires a tool. Otherwise, they all offer the same EW-52 screw-on style lens hood. This 3D printed lens hood is like the round (cylindrical) bayonet lens hood we are known to seeing on other lenses with some slight improved modifications:
  • OEM Lens Hood : Screw on
  • 3D Printed : The 3D printed lens hood is held in place with friction and easy to attach and remove. It can also be reversed for storage.
  • OEM Lens Hood : Short and lack of protection
  • 3D Printed : With the added length, the interior is flocked to prevent any glare/reflections (easily removable) and there's NO vignetting! Majority of photographers use lens hoods for protection and this 3D printed lens hood offers protection and blocks our flares.
Interior flock material is hand-cut and pre-installed onto lens hood. If you do not want it, you can easily remove it. This 3D printed lens hood has (what we feel is) the perfect snug fit when mounted onto the camera lens. It stays on securely and comes off easily.

 COMPATIBILITY

The lens hood is compatible with the following lens:

With the release of Canon's R-series full-frame mirrorless cameras, the EF-RF lens mount adapters extend the range of compatible lenses designed for attaching any EF or EF-S-mount lens to the EOS R-Series mirrorless digital camera. Canon offers four different version of the adapters:

At the time of this post, these adapters are either hard to find, have a long back-order whether it be from Amazon US, Amazon CA, Amazon UKB&H PhotoAdorama, Canon's online store or even price gouged on eBay.

However, if you are in need of an EF/S-RF lens mount adapter immediately for a project or vacation, there are other alternatives from 3rd party manufacturers. We've compiled a list of brands and where you can purchase them. The adapters retains full auto-focus and image stabilization capabilities and contains no optical components, thereby maintaining the original optical quality of the mounted lens. The only difference between OEM and 3rd party is the material quality and added lens/tripod collar (if applicable). They don't break the bank like the Canon or the price gouging from 2nd hand markets but it will hold you over until you're able to find a Canon version or if you feel the need to get OEM.

You never know...you may end up liking the aftermarket ones and saving some money.

We’re continuously working to improve this list by adding new adapters and removing the ones that are no longer in production. Please if you find any new or missing adapters that will need to be on the list. Price may vary from listed pricing. All pricing is listed in USD.

SOLD OUT: 3D Printed Canon Eyecup Eg Eyepiece Extender for 7D 5D 1D Cameras

Canon Eyecup Eyepiece Extender 7D 5D 1D

One of the most popular/visited reviews on our site is the JJC EC-6 Eyepiece Eg Extender. If you're not familiar with the eyepiece extender, it extends the eyecup 5/8" (15mm) from the camera body. This is useful for eyeglass wearers and others to keep the tip of the nose from touching the camera screen. Canon does make their own EP-EX15 and EP-EX15 II eyepiece extender but they don't fit any of the more recent EOS cameras.

We have been getting emails on where the aftermarket eyepiece extender can be purchased from. Unfortunately, they are discontinued and no longer being made even though the Canon eyecup (Eg) is still being used on current and new Canon cameras.

There are soft eyecup extenders available Amazon US, Amazon CA and Amazon UK.

But to help other photographers out who are searching for this extender, we created a CAD file of the eyepiece extender which will allow us to print a 3D model of it. The 3D printed version is almost an exact duplicate of JJC version but with some slight improved modifications:
  • Aftermarket : The 3rd party extender came with its own eyecup with a flat back which is slightly different from the Eg eyecup that comes with your camera.
  • 3D Printed : Grooves were cut out so that the OEM (Eg) eyecup that came with the camera can be used without have to buy new ones. If you lost or need replacements, you can purchase from Amazon US, Amazon CA, Amazon UKB&H PhotoAdorama and eBay.
  • Aftermarket : The 3rd party extender came with a cheap plastic lens to "help" magnify your view.
  • 3D Printed : Sole purpose of this is to extend the eyecup so that your face is not near or touching the screen. Also, the plastic lens only made your view even more distorted.
One thing that will still be the same is that some of the corners may be cut off when looking through the viewfinder because your view is now further away. Also, the viewfinder and OEM eyecup is rectangular while the extenders opening is a square. So this will require you to make slight adjustments to the positioning of your head when looking through the viewfinder.

 COMPATIBILITY

The eyepiece extender fits the following Canon EOS cameras that uses Eg eyecups:

Press Release: Canon Announces EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM and f/4L IS II USM

Today, Canon has announced two new versions of its popular telezoom lenses, the Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS III USM and the Canon EF 70-200mm F4L IS II USM.

The EF 70-200 F2.8L IS III USM is a modest refresh of version II, the new lens features the same 23 elements in 19 group optical design and 3.5 stop Image Stabilization system as its predecessor but adds Air Sphere Coating and fluorine coating on front and rear elements for ease of cleaning. The body of the lens is also much whiter.

The EF 70-200mm F4L IS II USM features numerous improvements over its predecessor, including five stops of stabilization – up from three in the older lens. The updated 70-200mm F4's stabilization system is quieter, and now features three modes, designed specifically for shooting still and moving subjects. The F4L weighs in at 780g and is 40g heavier than its predecessor. Optical construction comprises 20 elements in 15 groups, and the inclusion of Canon's Super Spectra Coating should help minimize ghosts and flare.

The Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS III USM will be available in August for $2,099 while the Canon EF 70-200mm F4L IS II USM will be available later this month for $1299.

CANON U.S.A. EXPANDS ITS LENS PORTFOLIO WITH THE NEW EF 85MM F/1.4L IS USM LENS AND THEIR FIRST-EVER MACRO TILT-SHIFT LENSES

New Canon EF Lenses Support a Variety of Photography Applications including Architecture, Portrait, Food and Landscape

MELVILLE, N.Y., August 29, 2017 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the new Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM lens as an addition to the Company’s existing 85mm focal-range lens line-up and three new Tilt-Shift macro lenses: the TS-E 50mm f/2.8L Macro lens, TS-E 90mm f/2.8L Macro lens and TS-E 135mm f/4L Macro lens. Canon also announced a new Macro Twin-Lite MT-26EX-RT flash. These new products will help provide both advanced amateur and professional photographers the unique photography tools for a variety of applications and solutions including architecture, landscape, food, product and portrait photography.

“Creating a powerful, timeless image requires more than just a camera. It requires high-quality, well-crafted optics and flashes to capture compelling photography,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., “These new lenses along and the Macro Twin-Lite flash will continue to push the boundaries and expand the possibilities of what advanced amateur and professional photographers capture and share with the world.”

Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM Lens
Canon EF 85mm focal-length lenses are traditionally very sought-after options for portrait photographers. With that in mind, Canon is expanding its EF 85mm line up with the introduction of the new Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM; the first Canon EF 85mm lens to feature image stabilization, providing up to four stops* of shake correction for smooth and crisp imagery.

The EF 85mm utilizes one large diameter, high-precision molded glass aspherical lens and features an ASC coating. The large f/1.4 aperture produces shallow depth-of-field, fast shutter speeds and a bright image inside the viewfinder, allowing photographers to focus and compose their image reliably. In addition, a circular aperture with 9-blade iris allows for beautiful bokeh.

The New Canon EF 85mm f/1.4 L IS USM is scheduled to be available November 2017 for an estimated retail price of $1599.00††.

New Tilt-Shift Lenses
Tilt-Shift lenses have several applications for suitable photographers because of their ability to provide enhanced creative control over perspective through the tilt function and depth-of-field through the shift function in their images. This ability can be optimal when photographing landscapes, portraits, and architecture.

The image quality derived from Canon Tilt-Shift lenses has evolved considerably since their first inception several years ago. Enhanced optical elements like molded aspherical glass and UD lenses are at the core of the new Canon TS-E 50mm f/2.8L Macro lens, TS-E 90mm f/2.8L Macro lens and TS-E 135mm f/4L Macro lens. These features provide users with edge-to-edge resolution, improved image quality over previous Canon TS-E lenses and minimum distortion. Canon also included two anti-reflective coatings, SubWaveLength Structure Coating (SWC) in the TS-E 50mm f/2.8L and TS-E 135mm f/4L Macro lenses and Air-Sphere Coating (ASC), into the TS-E 50mm f/2.8L and TS-E 90mm f/2.8L Macro lenses. SWC helps to reduce flare and ghosting, while ASC is a new technology that provides amazingly high, anti-reflective performance, particularly when alleviating incidental light that can enter a lens.

The new Canon Tilt-Shift lenses also offer improved operability over previous models, including larger tilt, shift-and-lock knobs, lock-release button and a new tilt-locking mechanism that firmly locks the lens in the zero-tilt position to help prevent unintended tilting to increase more precise shooting capabilities. The rotation of the tilt-shift lenses also allows users to freely change the axis of tilt movement and shift from right angles to parallel to better adapt to various shooting conditions and situations.

The new Canon TS-E 50mm f/2.8L Macro lens, TS-E 90mm f/2.8L Macro lens and TS-E 135mm f/4L Macro lenses are scheduled to be available November 2017 for an estimated retail price of $2199.00††.

Canon Macro Twin-Lite MT-26EX-RT Flash
To further enhance a photographer’s ability to shoot macro photography, the new Canon Macro Twin-Lite MT-26EX-RT Flash can be the ideal tool. The use of a macro twin-lite allows for a more ideal lighting situation for photographers, and can be adjusted and shifted depending on the direction the photographer would like to control. Detachable macro twin lites can be rotated up to 60 degrees, and features a maximum guide number of 85.3 ft (26 m)**.

The new Canon Macro Twin-Lite MT-26EX-RT Flash inherits the ease of use and operability of Canon’s latest Speedlite EX series flashes and increased brightness of the focusing lamp compared to previous Canon Macro-Twin Lites. There is also less noise produced from the charging of the lights.

The new Canon Macro Twin-Lite MT-26EX-RT Flash is scheduled to be available November 2017, for an estimated retail price of $989.99††.

Canon Rumors has it that Canon will be releasing the predecessor to the PC-E1, the PC-E2 this week alongside the rumored Canon EOS 6D Mark II and Canon EOS Rebel SL2. The PC-E2 will probably be the same with slight cosmetic look and possibly size?

EOS M5 Camera Provides The Fastest Autofocus (AF) speed of EOS M-Series and a built-in Electronic Viewfinder

MELVILLE, N.Y., September 15, 2016 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the latest additions to its EOS M series system – the new Canon EOS M5 Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera and compact EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens. The EOS M5 camera features a 24.2 Megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor, DIGIC 7 Image Processor and the fastest AF speed in the EOS M-seriesi, enabling photographers to capture clear, sharp, high-resolution images and Full HD videos. It is also the first in the EOS camera line to include the low energy Bluetooth® Smartii feature that can maintain a constant connectioniii with your compatible smartphone or tablet when you use the Canon camera connect application and both applications are active. The versatile EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens is compatible with all Canon EOS M series digital cameras, and is a great option for photographers looking to capture scenic landscapes while traveling to close-up shots from afar.

“The new capabilities found in the Canon EOS M5 Camera and EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens set a new standard for our EOS M series of cameras and lenses, showing that Canon is constantly incorporating performance enhancements desired by our customers,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “When paired together, the new EOS M5 camera and EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens provide image-makers of all levels with powerful tools that enable them to capture a variety of remarkable images and videos.”

In addition, advanced photographers will appreciate the improved operability of the EOS M5 camera. It has a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) and Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF for capturing stills and shooting video with smooth and precise autofocus. This allows for Touch and Drag AF so users can easily switch the subject of their focus by dragging the AF frame directly on the LCD panel, even while looking through the camera’s EVF. Focus peaking allows users to highlight the area of the image that is in focus from within the EVF or LCD monitor. In addition to its touchscreen operability, the EOS M5 camera also has easily accessible dials that allow you to quickly adjust your settings on-the-go.

Key Features of the Canon EOS M5 Camera Include:
  • 24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor, ISO 100–25600.
  • Fast and smooth Dual Pixel CMOS AF helps you capture stills and shoot video with quick and precise autofocus.
  • High-speed continuous shooting at up to 7.0 fps (up to 9.0 fps with AF Lock) and new DIGIC 7 Image Processor with improved AF tracking performance.
  • Full HD 60p helps capture fast-moving subjects and brilliant results in MP4 format.
  • Digital IS with 5-axis image stabilizationiv when shooting movies plus increased image stabilization with both lens optical IS and in-camera digital IS when shooting with an IS lens.

  • Intuitive touch screen 3.2 tilt-type (85° up/180° down) LCD monitor (approx. 1,620,000 dots) enables flexible positioning and clear viewing.
  • Easily customize functions while shooting using the Main Dial, Quick Control Dial, Dial Function Button and Exposure Compensation Dial.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi®v and NFCvi allows for easy sharing and transferring of images and videos.
  • Equipped with Bluetooth®iii Smart for smooth pairing with a compatible smartphone by powering on both devices for easy photo sharing and remote control possibilities.
  • Shorter camera startup timevii and interval time between each image capture for a more efficient shooting experience.
  • Compatible with EF-M lenses as well as the full line of EFviii and EF-Sviii lenses and Speedlites for expanded creativity.
The Canon EOS M5 also features Combination IS with in-camera 5-axis image stabilization, while capturing video, a first in the Canon EOS series. With a compatible lens attachediv, Combination IS leverages optical IS and in-camera digital IS to help create tremendously smooth videos. The DIGIC 7 Image Processor makes the 5-axis IS possible even with lenses that do not contain IS, because the in-camera image stabilization functions independently to help reduce camera shake when shooting videos.

Additionally, the EOS M5 camera shoots impressive time-lapse videos. The EOS M5 camera also allows for easy panning by setting the optimal shutter speed after analyzing the camera’s panning speed and how fast the subject is moving.

The new Canon EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens offers a high-zoom ratio, expanding the range of photographic possibilities for EOS M digital cameras. Its image stabilizer helps with reducing image blur and making image and video shooting easier at longer focal lengths. Along with the enhanced performance, the EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens is compact and lightweight, making it a versatile and convenient lens to carry.

Key Features of the Canon EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens Include:
  • Canon’s first EF-M high-zoom power lens covering a broad range of shooting scenes with a high-zoom ratio of up to 8.3x (29–240mm equivalent).
  • Compact and lightweight design allows for easy portability.
  • Optical design helps provide excellent image quality across a broad zoom range comparable to the EF-S 18–135mm f/3.5–5.6 IS USM lens.

The Next Generation of EOS 5D Cameras
In addition to the new Full Frame sensor, the new EOS 5D Mark IV includes a 61-point High-Density Reticular AF II system, similar to the one found in the flagship EOS-1D X Mark II, with all AF points selectable by the user (and up to 41 cross-type points depending on the lens in use). The AF system, improved over previous Canon 5D series models, includes expanded coverage across the frame that supports AF at maximum apertures up to f/8 with all 61 points for high-precision autofocus even when using EF super-telephoto lenses with an EF extender. Standard ISO range for the EOS 5D Mark IV is ISO 100-32,000 and is expandable to 50-102,400.

The EOS 5D Mark IV also introduces a new 150,000 pixel RGB+IR metering sensor with enhanced precision and performance compared to its predecessor, improving upon facial recognition and tracking as well as nature and sports scenes with fast-moving action. AF sensitivity in low light is EV-3 and EV-4 when in Live View mode. The EOS Scene Detection System can detect and compensate for flickering light sources that are often used in gymnasiums and swimming pools. When enabled, this anti-flicker system automatically adjusts shutter release timing to help reduce disparities in exposure and color especially during continuous burst shooting.

Following the groundbreaking video recording capabilities introduced in the EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 5D Mark III, the EOS 5D Mark IV takes the next leap forward offering DCI 4K video recording. Adding to the versatility of capturing 4K video, is Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF. This proven autofocus system allows for continuous focus tracking of subjects, and can be customized by the user for optimal performance. Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology not only enhances 4K video recording, but also helps create crisp focus for 4K Frame Grab extraction of 8.8 megapixel still JPEG images, all done in camera.

Mobile Connectivity
For the first time in an EOS 5D series DSLR camera, the EOS 5D Mark IV features built-in Wi-Fi®1 and Near-Field Communication (NFC)™ 1 providing for the easy transfer of images and MP4 movies to compatible mobile devices, as well remote shooting when using the Canon Camera Connect App2. The EOS 5D Mark IV also includes a built-in GPS3 receiver with compass for precise geo-tagged information of latitude, longitude, and elevation. This is especially valuable to wildlife photographers and photojournalists who need to track their locations, as well as providing sports and wedding photographers the ability to sync a multiple-camera setup with extreme accuracy and precision. The camera’s built-in GPS can also be used to sync the camera’s time to the atomic clock, an invaluable feature when multiple photographers are covering the same event.
