Kickstarter campaign by
Black Ember. They are launching their Gen03 Collection of Modular-Packs. The Gen03 Collection utilizes new ultra-light-weight, and low profile Mod-Clasp hardware, featuring Acetal & laser-cut Hypalon components.
In their most minimal form Black Ember Gen03 packs are designed to give you the right amount of space & the key features to get you through the next 24 to 48 hours of your life. They strive to deliver this within a sleek + minimal package.
Black Ember backpacks are durable, highly functional, weatherproof, packs designed to house and protect your critical gear. Each material has been carefully chosen for its particular performance characteristics and aesthetic quality. The backpacks are designed and crafted in obsessive functional and aesthetic detail. We design, develop and manufacture our own cast aluminum hardware and we also partner with Fidlock, the innovative German manufacturer of magnetic, mechanical locking hardware.
Their bag line-up ranges from a 7 liter DSLR fanny pack (DSLR Case), 25 liter backpack (Citadel) to a 30 liter messenger bag (Holdall Msngr) and backpack (TL3).
If pledge goal of $100,000 is successful, packs should begin shipping Fall 2016.

The Black Ember design process is directly informed by their teams experience with Outdoor performance design & built for everyday carry in urban environments. Our ergonomic, form fitted 3D shoulder straps support the pack’s load comfortably & each pack features an airflow back-panel to reduce heat and perspiration on your back.
Black Ember packs are modular, so you get to build your own your kit, specify it just the way you want it, and even change your set-up over time. Your Black Ember pack is good to go as-is. If you need more space & want to customize your pack, add Mods (modular accessories) to get the custom build you're looking for. Mods can be attached inside and outside of Black Ember packs such as a camera dedicated pouch, a media pouch, or a passport travel ready pouch.
Their Gen03 Mods connect via new ultra-light-weight, and low profile Mod-Clasp hardware, featuring Acetal & Laser-cut Hypalon components. Once installed they can not be removed by force and conform tightly to the pack surface.
The DSLR CASE is a 7 liter fanny-pack that is designed to carry and protect DSLR/SLR camera equipment. The DSLR CASE includes four positionable protective foam dividers that allow you to customize the interior of your DSLR CASE to best protect your gear. The DSLR also includes a padded, removable waist strap. Mods can be connected to the waist strap on both sides. Typical equipment that can fit in this pack includes: DSLR/SLR Body, 2 Lenses (not oversize telephoto) and a flash. The DSLR is also specially designed to work in tandem with the Citadel Pack. The DSLR can be attached to the top of the Citadel Pack like the hood of a back country pack, or to the base of the Citadel.
The 25 liter Citadel Pack features a primary zipper that runs nearly the full length of the pack. The Citadel is compatible with all Gen03 Mods. Mods can be attached both inside and outside of the Citadel. The Citadel is also designed to work in tandem with the Black Ember DSLR CASE. The DSLR CASE can be attached to the top or base of the Citadel Pack.
The 30 liter Holdall Msngr is a hybrid messenger pack featuring an innovative top zipper and a leather wrap handle integrated seamlessly into the form of the pack. The Holdall Msngr features an ergonomic shoulder strap with quick-release cast-aluminum hardware and can be set-up for either right or left handed use. Two vertical laser-cut, bonded, and bar-tacked zipper pockets, featuring Cam-lock zipper heads, run vertically on either side of the pack. The Holdall Msngr is compatible with all Gen03 Mods. The Holdall also features an external access laptop sleeve.
The 30 liter TL3 pack is a top loader featuring an innovative top access with the weatherproof qualities of a roll-top backpack and the convenience of a zipper access pack. The TL3 pack also features a mag-lock buckle connected top handle integrated seamlessly into the form of the pack. Two large vertical laser-cut, bonded, and bar-tacked zipper pockets, featuring Cam-lock zipper heads, run vertically on either side of the pack. The TL3 is compatible with all Gen03 Mods. Mods can be attached both inside and outside of the TL3.
