Birth of Sebastião Salgado, a Brazilian social documentary photographer, on February 8, 1944. An economist originally, he moved to photography in 1973 and mostly focused his camera on workers in poor conditions and nature untouched by modernity. He lived with the native tribe he captured in this photo as part of his effort to call attention to restoration of Brazilian rainforest and nature.
