Press Release: Skylum Announces Luminar NEO, New Creative Image Editor

NEW YORK, NY – September 9, 2021 — Skylum revealed Luminar Neo, a new creative image editor which empowers visual storytellers to bring their boldest ideas to life. Luminar Neo builds upon the unique, purpose-driven, AI editing technologies for which Skylum is well-known. Driven by our tradition of innovation, Luminar Neo further reimagines the image editing experience which enables creators to be more expressive with fewer boundaries and rediscover the joy in their creative work.

“As the latest member of the Luminar family, we designed Luminar Neo to allow artists to take on more challenging image creation work and achieve results which often seem unattainable,” said Dima Sytnik, Co-founder & CPO of Skylum.

Innovative technologies
Skylum continues to lead the market with innovative approaches and advanced technologies designed to improve the image editing process. Luminar Neo continues Skylum’s commitment to eliminate boring and repetitive tasks and help artists achieve results often seen as difficult.

Transform photos with new relighting options. Luminar Neo analyzes each image to recognize the depth of a scene and its subject which allows precise control over exposure and tone. Remove blemishes and distracting elements. Luminar Neo automatically recognizes and removes artifacts caused by a dirty camera sensor or lens. New tools make removing unwanted background elements easier than ever before.

Powerful background replacement. Take full control of the background for portrait photos by quickly replacing it with an all-new image or background.

Round-trip mobile image management. Our new companion mobile app makes it simple to add pictures captured on a mobile device to your Luminar Catalog. Once edited in Luminar Neo, results can be sent back to the mobile device for easy social sharing or viewing on the go.

Precise control with flexible editing
We designed Luminar Neo with input from working photographers, artists, and colorists. With this guidance, we built Luminar Neo to help artists break new creative ground with an image editor that allows precise control over every aspect of the final image while providing artists a flexible toolset that can be tailored to their unique creative workflow. These capabilities include:

AI-Driven Compositing
  • Smart, AI-based masking easily isolates elements in individual images.
  • Add numerous images as layers to create entirely new art.
  • Apply any tool and any mask … to any layer, in any order, multiple times.
  • Use creative blending modes, guided by AI, to achieve clean, precise, composite images.
Improved Ease of Use
  • Users can save their photos as well as presets for easy reuse.
  • All editing steps remain editable for complete control over the final image.
  • With a minimalist user interface, the whole process is enjoyable and easy.
High performance
An all-new editing engine drives Luminar Neo, making it possible to apply multiple tools to an image without significant performance loss. Luminar Neo allows for complex layering of several raw images. Our new Luminar engine enables Skylum to further optimize and refine the entire image-processing pipeline.

While built atop an efficient new engine, Luminar Neo inherits the proven, AI-driven technologies which made LuminarAI a ground-breaking image editor.

“The goal of Luminar has always been to help everyone create images they truly love. With Luminar Neo, we empower even more artists and photographers to achieve their full creative vision,” said Ivan Kutanin, CEO of Skylum. “With new tools and a flexible editing workflow, they’ll find powerful new ways to create while being inspired to explore new ways to do so. We can’t wait to see what our creative community comes up with.”

Availability
Luminar Neo ships this winter, but new artists don’t need to wait to create. They can pre-order and save on a bundle that provides LuminarAI now and Luminar Neo when it launches.

Visual storytellers who use other image editing applications can also use Luminar Neo as a plugin. Used in this way, Luminar adds incredibly useful and powerful, AI-driven editing tools to Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Classic.

Skylum Announces AirMagic for Aerial and Drone Photo Editing

Drones took photography literally to new heights. If you're a drone photographer, the folks over at Skylum Software have announced AirMagic. a AI-powered app for Mac and Windows designed to automatically enhance aerial photos that are taken with drone cameras. Orders for the new app begin today, and AirMagic will be released on March 21.

AirMagic is built upon Skylum's A.I.-powered photo editor, Photolemur. Both apps use similar technology to process images, with AirMagic being fine-tuned for use with popular consumer and professional drones.

AirMagic requires little input to actually edit images. Simply drop your aerial photos into the app and AirMagic detects the drone and camera used to take the photo, then applies adjustments to fix haze, contrast, sharpness, saturation, and chromatic aberration. For those who would like to create a unique look, there are five preset styles that can be applied to the photos.

The program first uses the metadata to determine which drone was used to capture the image in order to work with the camera’s specific lens and color profile. After making corrections, the program’s algorithms address issues specific to the image.

AirMagic can work with multiple images in groups, working with up to 4GB of images at a time. Supporting major image formats, the program also works with RAW files. AirMagic can be used either as a stand-alone program, or as a Photoshop or Lightroom plugin.

AirMagic is available for Mac and PC, retails for $39 as a license that can be used on up to two computers. The company has a special offer for those who pre-order AirMagic. With the preorder, the company throws in $145.99 worth of bonuses that include:
  • Drone photography eBook by Skylum
  • Shoot Professional Photos with any Drone video course
  • AirMagic Premium Style
  • Lume Cube Lighting Kit for Drone ($40 discount)

Macphun makes free public beta of Luminar for Windows available for download

Macphun debuts its first-ever software for the PC, heralding a new era of cross-platform solutions for photographers

San Diego, CA – July 13, 2017 — Macphun, the California-based developer known for delivering award-winning products for Mac, today launched the free public beta of its award-winning photo editor Luminar for Windows. To download the beta, please visit macphun.com/beta.

Luminar is a powerful photo editor designed to tackle anyone’s photography needs, from correcting challenging image problems to artful stylizing. Users can choose between levels of image processing complexity based on their experience, and adapt the workspace controls to their skill level, moving up to more advanced modes as they learn. Luminar works in non-destructive fashion and aims to take “work” from photo editing “workflow” for photographers worldwide.

In April, only 5 months after its launch, Luminar for Mac won the prestigious TIPA award for Best Imaging Software 2017. This all-in-one photo editor is a cutting-edge solution for creating fascinating images without extra hassle. Luminar includes over 300 robust tools that make fixing, editing and perfecting a photo as easy as moving a slider.

We are thrilled to release our first PC product today and give photography enthusiasts around the world the first taste of our best-selling Mac product,” said Kevin La Rue, Vice-President at Macphun. “By test-driving Luminar for Windows, beta testers can help shape our software and make the final release a perfect fit for everyone,” concluded La Rue.

The public beta is free of charge and already matches some of the most important features of Luminar, such as the newest and most advanced tool developed by Macphun’s Research and Development Lab – the Accent AI Filter, powered by artificial intelligence technology. The filter allows anyone to create stunning images with a single slider, substituting for dozens of traditional controls like shadows, highlights, contrast, tone, saturation, exposure, details and many others.
Admittedly, several features from the Mac version of Luminar remain in development for the Windows platform, among them workspaces, plug-in integration, object removal, noise reduction, and more. As these are completed, the public beta will be updated regularly leading to a full cross-platform release late in 2017.

Key features of the Luminar for Windows public beta:
    • Adaptive user interface – Exactly matching the Mac version, the software adapts to the skill level and preferences of the photographer.
    • One-click presets – Over 50 pre-defined styles for every photography style.
    • Photo Editing Filters – Over 40 custom filters, each with built-in visual tips and a unique set of easy-to-use controls for correcting, enhancing and stylizing images.
